Ah, the migraine journal. Sounds boring, right? Like one more thing to do when your head feels like it’s being squeezed by a vice?
Stick with me—it’s more helpful than you think.
Why Track at All?
Because migraines are sneaky. They don’t show up with a clear cause. Journaling helps you:
- Spot triggers
- Time attacks
- Identify patterns
- Communicate with doctors (without relying on memory you don’t have mid-migraine)
What to Track:
- Sleep (duration and quality)
- Food and drink
- Stress levels
- Weather
- Screen time
- Meds taken
- Symptoms and duration
Apps are great for this (more on that soon), but pen and paper works too. Don’t overthink it—just be consistent.
But Won’t This Make Me Obsessed?
Good question. You don’t want to spiral into health-anxiety territory. Keep your journal factual, not emotional. It's not a diary for venting—it’s a detective tool.
Use it to empower, not overwhelm.
